In celebration of the 72nd Araw ng Dabaw, People’s Park plays host to “Kalasikas”, a nightly theater, dance and music performances of outstanding Davaoeño groups from March 10 to 16, 2009.
Originating from the local term meaning the rustling of leaves creating beautiful music, “Kalasikas” celebrates prosperity, harmony and peace as it showcases the diversity of artistic creations of the Davoenos called “Garbo sa Dabaw” (Pride of Davao).
The schedule of this year’s “Kalasikas”: March 10: 6-7 PM - Popong Landero and The PLO Band; 7-8 PM - Kalumon Performing Ensemble; March 11: 7-9 PM - Kaliwat Theatre Collective; March 12: 6-7 PM- Madayaw Cultural Troupe; 7-8 PM - Bolton Elementary School and Community Band; March 13: 6-7 PM - Magallanes Elementary School Dance Troupe and Rondalla; 7-8 PM - Kathara Dance Theatre Collective featuring Subwan; March 14: 6-7:30 PM – Royeca School Of Ballet; 7:30-8:30 PM - Himig Singers; March 15: 6-7 PM - Matina Central Elementary School Choir; 7-8 PM - Davao Boys Choir; March 16 - 7-9 PM – SAMADHI.
Since 2004 different groups were featured to render performances during the Araw ng Dabaw celebration. “Kalasikas” is another venue that the City Government of Davao initiates in promoting the culture of creativity and artistic excellence.
